Airlines are typically regarded among the leaders in using revenue management tools to price our products. In Delta’s case, we had the standard software tools used by most other airlines; however Delta was generating substantially lower unit revenues than other major network carriers in 2005. Delta’s recent transformation has been based on refocusing the entire company on revenue performance. Delta's powerful rebirth illustrates the importance of doing more than implementing a new pricing structure or software tools—optimizing revenue requires a fierce corporate focus and a culture of revenue performance.
